HIT Foundation’s Head of Engineering Vega Paithankar attended the second project meeting in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Dog mediated rabies is killing 60’000 people every year. HIT Foundation is part of the consortium under the lead of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute conducting the Blockrabies study. Prof. Jacob Zinsstag (Swiss TPH) initiated the study “BLOCKRABIES – Blockchain high-coverage rabies post-exposure prophylaxis to achieve zero human rabies deaths in Africa” which is funded by THE EUROPEAN & DEVELOPING COUNTRIES CLINICAL TRIALS PARTNERSHIP. Parties involved are the Institut Pasteur, Université des Sciences, des Techniques et des Technologies de Bamako (USTTB), Laboratoire Central Vétérinaire (LCV) – Bamako, Institut National d’Hygiène Publique – Côte d’Ivoire, and the Ministère des Ressources Animales et Halieutiques – Cote d’Ivoire. HIT Foundation is providing the blockchain infrastructure for the tracking of the rabies vaccines.
